Keynote

Rev. Arnold Thomas, pastor of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Jericho

The presentation will focus on addressing racism in Vermont as a public health issue. 

Speakers:

Melissa Alperin, APHA Council of Affiliates Chair, will provide a perspective on the important reciprocal relationships between state public health associations and APHA. 

Lisa Carlson, APHA President, will provide her reflections as a national leader on the recent public health challenges that we have all faced. 

After attending the Vermont Public Health Association Conference which will focus on Racial Equity and Public Health the participants will be able to: 

  1. Show how Racial inequity/injustice has negatively impacted the health status and well-being of African-Americans in the USand specifically in Vermont. 
  2. Illustrate the repercussions of racial bias on the health of minority populations for both communicable diseases, e.g. COVID 19 and non-communicable diseases, e.g. hypertension.  
  3. Identify ways that racial inequities negatively impact health access. 
  4. Outline steps that can be taken to improve health equity. 
  5. Summarize tangible steps that health professionals can take to address and overcome health inequities that stem from racial injustice.
